| 1013 | Dr. James A. Munsey, Sr. of Marietta, GA, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta. He passed peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones. Dr. Munsey was the founder, and long-time Senior Pastor of New Life Family Church, Marietta, GA. He dedicated his life to Jesus as a teenager. From that time, he sought to help people get to know the Lord - not only to live the lives God intended for them, but to live better lives every day. Born in Lenoir City, TN, Dr. Munsey was one of 10 children. He originally enlisted into the United States Marine Corps to operate heavy equipment, but after testing, it was determined that he was undoubtedly more suited for communications. Pastor Munsey held many jobs as a young man, but he knew he was called to the ministry at a very early age. He served as an evangelist, but was a born teacher and pastor. His own ministry began as a bible study. In the late 70's, that study became the core of New Life Family Church, where literally thousands were touched and changed. New Life became his mission. Pastor Munsey had no greater joy than introducing men, women, and children to Jesus. He took time to do just that, speaking to people wherever he was - on the streets, in homes, in big meetings or one-on-one waiting in line. Pastor Munsey loved others and spoke to them about their need for a Savior. He cared. He loved. And he never stopped loving. Pastor Munsey is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn, of Marietta, GA, daughter Debra Whitworth (John Douglas) of Marietta, son James (Kim) of Marietta and daughter in love, Shannon Brown. Surviving grandchildren include Thomas S. Sawyer, Jr., Ashleigh and Chaz Whitworth, Brittany Dean, Logan, Cameron and Kyle Munsey, Morgan Brown, John Sawyer as well as great grandson Garrett McCain Munsey. He is also survived by sisters, in-laws, the congregation at New Life, and a loving family of friends. James was predeceased by his grandson, Dylan Munsey. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011, 6 pm at the Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd. in Roswell, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Life Family Church. Pastor Munsey was cremated. | Munsey, Rev. James Avery (Jim) Sr. (I3608)
