| 3318 | HORACE B. MUNSEE, farmer, P.O. Wattsburg, was born in Herkimer Co., N.Y., Feb. 10, 1829. His father was a soldier in the war of 1812, and was twice wounded; he was a native of Kinderhook, N.Y.; married to, Matilda Worden. They came to this township in 1839. The mother departed this life in 1869, the father May 26, 1876. They were an industrious pioneer couple, respected by all. They left 6 children— Mrs. Salinda Burlingham; Harvey, in Venango Co.; Jackson A.; Peter, in Ogden, Utah; Franklin and Horace R. Our subject was brought up in this township and educated at the district schools. He was married, August 16, 1849, to Fannie, daughter of Gilbert Dailey, who died in 1862. His widow subsequently married Ira Boynton, and resides in this township. Mrs. Munsee is a native of Rensselaer Co., N.Y. Three children were born to this union— Salinda, deceased; Willard G., married to Carrie Johnson, and has 50 acres adjoining his father’s farm; Artemus B., deceased. | 3332 | Howard Mercer Munsey was born February 9, 1937 in the Meadow Creek community of Wayne County and departed this life on earth Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the home of his son having reached the age of 74. He was the youngest son of the late Willie Fountain Munsey and Maggie (Mercer) Munsey. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Richard Lee Munsey. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Mazie (Harris) Munsey; and his step-son, Mike Armstrong. Howard is survived by: 3 children, Jackolyn (Ronnie) Upchurch, Donovan (Rhonda) Munsey, and Bro. Terry (Teresa) Munsey; 1 step daughter, Janet (Jimmy) Shepherd; 1 granddaughter, Rebecca Munsey of Somerset, KY; 1 grandson, Jerrad (Jamie) DeRossett of Bowling Green, KY; and 1 great granddaughter, Riley Young. Also surviving is 1 sister-in-law, Linnie East Munsey; along with 2 nieces, Nancy (Donnie) Dunagan and Joyce Munsey; 1 nephew, Richard Lewis (Janet) Munsey; 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews. Howard also has 11 step grandchildren, 3 of those he helped to raise, Casey Armstrong, Shana Kau, and Kylie Baker; 23 step-great grandchildren; and 3 great-great nephews. Howard farmed most of his life and worked at Bluegrass Oakwood. He was a devoted basketball fan and highly favored the Kentucky Wildcats. He also enjoyed horse shows, fishing, and being around people. Howard was a member of Meadow Creek Baptist Church but in recent years attended New Covenant Fellowship for as long as his health allowed. His wit and humor will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 11 am at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Leonard Carroll, Bro. Austin Flowers, and Bro. Paul Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery. | Munsey, Willie Fountain (I5740)
