Harry D. Munsey, Hampton Official, Succumbs at 77

HAMPTON -- Harry Dale Munsey, 77, a leading political figure for many years, died yesterday at his home, 641 Exeter Road, after a long illness.

A resident of this town for the past 53 years, Mr. Munsey began his career here as a selectman, serving in that capacity for the past 30 years, and at the time of his death was chairman of the Board of Selectmen. In 1925 he was Hampton's representative in the legislature and was elected state senator from the 23rd District in 1929.

He served as police chief in Hampton and Hampton Beach from 1914 to 1924, and in recent years had been bail commissioner. He also serves as Rockingham County's deputy sheriff.

Born in Exeter, Dec 8, 1882, Mr. Munsey was the son of the late George and Grace (Langley) Munsey, and had attended Exeter Schools. He was employed as a farmer before starting his career in government.

Well known in Masonic circles, he was a member of the Star of the East Lodge, F&AM and the Easter Star.

Survivors include a son, Donald T. Munsey of Hampton, and two grandchildren.

5688 Possibly illegitimate son of George Fee and Mary Muncy. One family file on Ancestry lists him this way.

After research, I've been unable to find him in the 1860 or 1870 censuses in Kentucky or Virginia living in a Muncy family so the Ancestry family file may be correct. Y-DNA could confirm.
