| 716 | CENSUS: Jacob Munsey is the head of household in Giles in the 1840 U.S. Census, pg 254. Males 1 0-5, 3 5-10, 2 10-15, 1 40-50. Females 1 0-5, 1 10-15, 1 15-20, 1 30-40. Comparison with children born before 1840 show there may be one additional missing male child who was 5-10 in 1840, and died (or moved out) by 1850. !The children of Jacob Muncy and Mary Fanning are listed by Mary Margaret Beach, who lists her sources as: "Marriage records of Giles County, Virginia; "Bland County History" -- 1961, pages 161, 162, 183, 191, 192; Jacob Munsey (Jr.) from Daisy Bratton Hardy, Roanoke, Virginia, April 1986 -- granddaughter of Jacob & Margaret Henderson Munsey. !CHILDREN: Mary Margaret Beach does not list Mary Ann, but there is a female of age 15-20 in the household in the 1840 census who is not accounted for. Mary Ann's marriage record clearly lists her father as Jacob. There are no other Jacob Munsey in Virginia in 1840. !MARRIAGE: Wythe County Virginia Marriages (film 034254), page 72, (transcribed portion). !DEATH: Death records, Giles County Vital Records (film 031740), page 16, line 19, mother listed as Eilsey. !Evidence that Jacob Muncy (husband of Mary Fanning, father of William H.,Jacob, and Wiley W.) is the same as the Jacob Muncy (son of Holton Muncy): Jacob Muncy (husband of Mary Fanning) had his will recorded in Giles,November 1860. A Jacob Muncy died in Giles November 10, 1860, (Vital Records); his Mother's name is listed as Eilsey, and the birthdate calculated from his age is 3 Jan 1793. This matches exactly the age of Jacob, son of Holton Muncy. In support of this, the first child of Jacob of Giles is named Ailsey, which was the name of Holton's wife (Jacob's mother). Also,Doris Harris was told it was so by a granddaughter of Jacob. | Muncy, Jacob Sr. (I4349)

| 730 | Charles D. Munsey BIRTH 1834 Russell County, Virginia, USA DEATH 2 Jan 1865 (aged 30–31) Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA BURIAL Greenlawn Cemetery (Defunct) Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA MEMORIAL ID 188421999 · View Source MEMORIAL PHOTOS 0 FLOWERS 1 Parents: Issac and Patsey Munsey Wife: Rebecca Nash Kelly, daughter of William Kelly and Rebecca Nash Children: William Kelly Munsey., David Munsey, Margaret M."Maggie" (Munsey) Gray and Nancy Jane (Munsey) Tate. Charles served as a Confederate soldier in the US Civil War. He was captured and died while he was being held at a POW Camp Morgan. War records show his date of death as January 2, 1865. Confederate Pension Application Form gives December 1864 as when he died. "Approximately 1,700 prisoners died between 1862 and 1865 while incarcerated at Camp Morton. The death rate ran close to 20% of those imprisoned, with estimates of at least 9,000 prisoners having passed through the gates during its’ 25 months of operation. Local newspapers regularly printed the names of prisoners who died, though often they were listed as “unknown.” Their wooden coffins were placed in trenches in City Cemetery, later to be renamed Greenlawn Cemetery. The original gravesites were marked with wooden headboards bearing identification numbers that time would soon erase. Some remains were exhumed and returned to family members."
