- PEABODY - It is with sadness that the family of Roberta M. “Bobbi” Whitaker, announces her passing on Friday, July 21, 2017 at her home at Brooksby Village in Peabody.
Born in Salem, she was the wife of the late Carl F. Whitaker, Jr. and the late Leo Bourgault and daughter of the late Herbert and Florence Munsey.
She grew up in North Beverly and lived there until moving to Boxford where she was a resident for 58 years. In 2013, she moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody.
She graduated from Beverly High School and attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Bobbi was employed by the Town of Boxford as a Clerk in the Assessor’s Office until the time of her retirement in 2001.
Bobbi loved music, animals (especially her kitty, Blackie), travel, and the outdoors. Her bird feeders were always full and she especially enjoyed hand-feeding peanuts to the chipmunks and squirrels. She was an avid gardener and cultivated beautiful gardens at her home in Boxford, as well as at Brooksby Village. She was a member of the Boxford Village Garden Club where she was active for many years and participated in civic beautification. She also served several years with the Friends of the Boxford Town Libraries and more recently has enjoyed her volunteer work at the Box Top Shop in Topsfield. Her adventurous spirit led to many special trips with her family and her daughter, Carla.
She was active at Brooksby Village where she was a member of the Recycling Committee, the Garden Club and the Women’s Forum. Bobbi had many dear friends at Brooksby and especially enjoyed gathering regularly to share meals with her friends.
She was a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston and a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Beverly where she served in many capacities including as the Treasurer and on the Executive Board. She blessed many with her love of music, playing piano at numerous events, as well as being the organist of her church for nearly sixty years.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Carla D. Whitaker of Beverly, her son, Dana L.S. Whitaker and his wife, Susan of Peterborough, NH, four grandchildren, Kathryn E. Whitaker, Ryan S.C. Whitaker, Ethan C.J. Whitaker and Ashley S. Whitaker, a brother-in-law, Peter Whitaker and his wife, Marion of Essex Junction, VT, several nieces and nephews, and her sweetheart, Bill Herlihy. She was also the sister of the late Thurley J. Bentley.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, 300 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be private. At the request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
