Robert R. McCubbins, 84, Billings, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in Billings, the town he always called home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church in Billings with Kent Reubell officiating. A private family burial will follow. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home in Billings.
McCubbins was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Perry to Clarence R. and Alma (Muncy) McCubbins. He was born in the house built by his great grandfather, Civil War Captain Zackary H. McCubbins.
He lived his entire life in Noble County. When he was young, his parents moved to Billings, where they operated a produce house and cream station for many years. His received his early education in Billings schools. He was an honor student and active in sports.
He enrolled at Oklahoma State University when he was 18. In the fall of his first semester, he broke his neck in a football accident. The injury remained a part of his life.
He graduated from Oklahoma State University and received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Law. He was a certified public accountant, held a degree in education and farmed 2,000 acres of land. While in law school, he served in the Oklahoma legislature. At that time he was the youngest person to ever serve.
When the office of Noble County attorney was open, McCubbins took the position. Henry Bellmon replaced him in the legislature. Later he became Noble County judge. He served as judge for 26 years.
McCubbins loved children, dogs and red horses. His dog always rode with him in his pickup. There were usually a dozen red horses on the farm where he could watch them. He was a member of Billings Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Clarence F. McCubbins.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, one niece, three nephews, three great-nieces; and many friends.
