He was a minister in the Holston Conference and traveled with Bishop Asbury in the great bounds extending from New River to the Cumberland Gap in 1790. During this year, he was the first Methodist Minister to deliver a sermon in Elk Garden, Virginia. His name appears in the General Minutes of the Western Conference from 1795 to 1797.
