- Obit Nashville Tennessean:
Deborah Dee Poteet (nee Muncy), age 63, of Nashville, TN passed away late Monday, February 12th, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. A graduate of Westview High School, Debbie was born in Texas and spent most of her childhood in New Mexico before moving to Martin, TN with her family as a teenager where she later attended UT Martin. She is survived by her husband of 38-years, Sam H. Poteet, Jr., her three adult children, Sam Denton Poteet (wife Kyndall Monroe), Elizabeth Dee Poteet and Morgan Ann Poteet, her four-month-old grandson, Sylvan H. Poteet, her mother, Jewel Dee Muncy, and her two older brothers.
Debbie loved the sun, hated action movies, and thought Christmas was the best holiday. She claimed her motto was “live free or die hard,” (despite her dislike of action films) and while she never jumped out of an airplane or climbed a mountain, she tried to live a life free from anger and resentment and to instead embrace the joy and happiness of the present. Even after being diagnosed with cancer six years ago, Debbie lived her life to the fullest—from speedboat rides in New Zealand and family vacations in Hawaii, to dancing along to her favorite songs in Vegas with her daughters at the Backstreet Boy and Celine Dion concerts and riding around in her mini-cooper convertible, Bella. However, she was happiest at home with her family in the North Carolina mountains, sitting by the fire with a pot of green tea, a book, her tribe of dachshunds, and the people she loved. While she wasn’t perfect, she was warm, funny, and made everyone feel welcome. She leaves behind an inconsolable family, lifelong friends, a legacy of love, and the example to live life as it comes and to always be ready to dance around in the living room. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, please send dachshunds.
