- In Augusta Co., VA by 1762: Francis Muncy was first documented in Augusta County, Virginia on August 23, 1762, when he with his brother, Skidmore Muncy, signed a document relative to the support of Jean Scott who was the orphaned sister of Skidmore Muncy’s wife, Mary Scott.
On May 2, 1767, he and his brothers, Skidmore and William, signed a petition for a road on “the Great Road to the Court House which will be the convenient road to travel from North or South to Mill or to Market.” (Chalkey, History of Augusta County, Virginia, Vol. I, pp. 429, 489)
On September 12, 1777, Francis Muncee (sic) was in Capt. Cloyd’s Company of Militia. (Roberts, Ruby A, Montgomery County’s Revolutionary Heritage, p. 340)
Francis Munsey purchased 450 acres on October
12, 1782, on Neck Creek Brancy of New River, and was granted leave to build a grist mill on his own land on April 5, 1796. (Summers, Lewis Preston, Annals of South West Virginia - 1769-1800, Vol. 1, Part 1, p. 892) [2]
