John served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24D "Sexy Sue" (#41-23938), 98th Bomber Squadron, 11th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Scott County, Arkansas prior to the war.
The crew of B-24 "Sexy Sue" took off from their base on the Tarawa Airfield on a night mission to bomb the Wotje Atoll area of the Marshall Islands. They did not return to base.
John was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
