MUNCY, VIOLET, 80, passed away Monday, January 15, 2007 at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born January 30, 1926 in Louisa, Lawrence County, KY, the second daughter of Wade H. and Esta Jane Prince Muncy. She graduated from Daviess County High School and Kentucky Wesleyan College. After college, she was a social worker for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It was during this time she met and married Oliver M. Roberts on December 24, 1947. Violet was recruited to teach the Head Start pilot program in Pike County, an educational opportunity which proved to be a great success. Violet loved her family. She worked with her husband in the development and expansion of natural gas resources in the area through the Oliver Roberts Drilling Company. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Pikeville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and her husband. She is survived by four sons, Dr. Oliver W. Roberts, of Florida, Robert S. Roberts, Howard V. Roberts and Randall L. Roberts, all of Pikeville; five grandchildren, Lane Roberts Jones, Prewitt Roberts, Chad Roberts, Nicholas Roberts and Thomas Roberts; and one brother, Wade Muncy. Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Pikeville with Rev. Dr. Mickey Anders officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Paintsville. Visitation: 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at J.W. Call Funeral Home, Pikeville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Christian Church or to Pikeville College.
