- Lester G. Munsey Jr.obituaries@TimesRecord.Com01/22/200 7PHIPPSBURG — Lester George Munsey Jr., 90, of Main Road died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at his home.
He was born in Bath on Aug. 17, 1916, the son of Lester R. Sr. and Etta May Rines Munsey. He attended local schools.
On June 16, 1945 he married Alice A. Bishop in Bath.
In his early years he worked at the Bath Iron Works, but had decided early on in his work career that he was a self-taught enterpenuer who wanted his hands in everything. Together with his wife Alice they owned and operated several different businesses, starting with the OK Corral Restaurant and Store in Phippsburg from 1958 to 1973, Munsey Oil, Munsey Taxi in the early '80s, Munsey's Used Cars for 25 years and Munsey Construction.
In his spare time, he and his wife were very dedicated to the Democratic party. He served on the Phippsburg School Board and drove a bus for the Phippsburg School Department. He also had a love for animals.
He was predeceased by his wife on Oct. 10, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Anderson of Brunswick and Roberta Pedmore of Brunswick; two sons, Clarence Munsey and his wife, Silvia, of Brunswick and William Munsey of Okla; a stepdaughter, Ellie and her husband, Warner Alexander, of Sebasco; two brothers Russell Munsey of West Bath and Ellery Munsey and his wife, Audrey, of Brunswick; a sister, Amanda King of Bath; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
At the family's request, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. Burial will be private.
