BOWDIONHAM BOY DROWNS
Bowdionham- A 10 year old Ridge road boy drowned in the Cathance River
yesterday near the town landing, despite
efforts by companions and an onlooker to rescue him.
Divers recovered the body of Ricky Munsey about 3pm., after a two-hour
search in the tide waters of the Cathance.
Sagadahoc Country Medical Examiner James O. Smith
pronounced the youngster deat at the scene. He was the son of
Kenneth and Nancy Munsey, of Ridge Road.
Sagadahoc County Sheriff Robert N. Stailing
said this morning that Munsey was apparently a
non-swimmer, yet he entered the water from
a float at the town landing with at least one
companion and one of his sisters, expecting to
hold onto the float.
Stailing said the boy was apparently unable
to hold on to the float against the ebbing tide
and was carried downstream by the waters.
About 11:30 am, Jerry Bunick, 10, of Fisher
Road, jumped into the water to help his friend
while another companion ran up Main Street
looking for help. Stailin said Bunick apparently
reached Munsey, but was unable to bring him
to shore.
Sheriffs deputies arrived at the scene within
10 minutes of the call for help. and they
initiated the search for the youth, using private
boats and volenteers from the Bowdioham Fire
Department.
George Cabot, a Bath Diver, joined the search
about 1:30 , and a team of Nacy divers arrived
about 2pm. the yougsters body was recovered
about an hour later.
Ricky Allen Munsey was born in Meriden Conn.,
Sept 27 1965
a son of Kenneth A and Nancy Anne Small Munsey.
He was a fifth grade student at the Bowdionham
Community School., an a member of one of the
T-Ball teams at the school.
Besides his parents of Bowdionham, he leaves
three brothers, Daniel A Munsey, David A Munsey,
and Roger R Munsey, and five sisters, Lynn A Munsey.,
Lee A Munsey, Theresa M Munsey, Gail M Munsey, and
Ginger L Munsey., all of Bowdionham.
Maternal grandpartens, Mr and Mrs. Alfred Small of Topsham,
and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank A Munsey
of Brunswick. two aunts and uncles and several cousins.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 pm. at the
Bracket Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street Brunswick, Me
with the Rev. Arthur J. Veno Jr,. officiating, Burial will be
in the Village Cemetery, Bowdionham.
Friends and relatives may visit the
Brackett Funeral Home on Wedensday between
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
