- For some time the ancestry of William Muncy (i8287) of Montgomery/Fayette County in Virginia has been uncertain. Family trees on Ancestry and FamilySearch have suggested theories without evidence or proof. There are some (FamilySearch) who believe that William was a son of Skidmore, but given the year of William's birth, and the location of Skidmore's family, this seems very unlikely.
While new evidence and sources could alter the ancestry shown here, I believe the circumstantial evidence recently discovered and shown here links him as a son of Luke Muncy Sr. and Mary Polly Britt.
- William Muncy (age 26-45) In 1810 Montgomery County, Virginia census is living adjacent to Luke Muncy;
- William's birth year fits a gap in the record of children of Luke and Polly Muncy.
- Luke was a signatory (x) to William's marriage bond in Stokes County, North Carolina. (Stokes County borders Virginia.)
It should be noted that William is not mentioned by name in Luke's will, but this does not rule him out as a son of Luke.
I have attempted to reconstruct the family and birth years of children of the marriage of William and his first wife Martha McNeely based on the 1830 and 1840 census. Based on this information an estimated death date of 1835 has been assigned to Martha. It should be understood that the assigned birth years are HIGHLY SPECULATIVE since there is so much variability in the 1830/1840 census.
