Services for L.G. Muncy, 79, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Caro officiating.
Mr. Muncy was born June 11, 1921, in Belcherville, Texas, the son of Leonard Guy and Thelma Carpenter Muncy. He died Saturday, February 17, 2001, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
He had lived in Love County since 1971, moving here from Comanche, Texas. He and Ruby Barber were married in Irving, Texas, on July 5, 1975. Mr. Muncy worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 34 years and retired as the Marietta Agent in 1983. He also was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Medics, and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Muncy also worked at Cochran's Hardware in Marietta for four years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and playing practical jokes. Mr. Muncy was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, a member of the Elks Lodge and the Pearl Street Church of Christ in Comanche.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Muncy of the home; two sons, Guy Muncy of Waco, Texas, and Ted Self of Palm Springs, California; four daughters, Sherian Turner of Irving, Linda Shaffer of Arlington, Texas, Judy Gentry of Ardmore, and Barbara Boswell of Stillwater; a brother, Jerry Muncy of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Evelyn Keith of Fort Worth and Leona Martin of Copperas Cove, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Muncy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Martha Muncy; and a brother, Bill Muncy.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Brian Ford, Randy Sullivan, Tony Gentry, Dewayne Pickens, Dale Lyons and Brandon Pulliam. Honorary pallbearers were Fletcher Coble, Jerry Kerr, Perry Peterson and all other "coffee buddies."
Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
