- Marie Germaine "Gerry" Muncy (1918 - 2011)
Marie Germaine "Gerry" Muncy died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at the age of 93. Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 6150 Pershing Ave., Fort Worth. Interment: 2:30 p.m. Friday in Restland Memorial Park of Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth.
Gerry was born to Henri and Marie Mercredi Lafferty on July 28, 1918, in Fond Du Lac, Saskatchewan, Canada. The first of 12 children, she became an accomplished seamstress and learned how to grade animal pelts while living in Stony Rapids, Saskatchewan. While working at the Hudson Bay Co., she met U.S. Army Sgt. Keith Muncy of Arkansas and they married Jan. 11, 1943. They went on to live in Utah, then moved to Killeen, where she operated Gerry's Alteration Shop. In 1959, they purchased a home in Garland where they remained for the rest of their marriage. Keith died in 1991, and in 1997 Gerry relocated to the Fort Worth area, living first at St. Francis Retirement Village and later at Mirabella Assisted Living Center. During her years in Garland, she ran an alterations business from her home, hosted weekly bridge parties and was an active member of the Democratic Women's Club of Dallas, the Altar Society of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. In addition to her husband, Gerry was preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings.
Survivors: Sisters, Celine Aaron of Fort Worth, Dorothy Cummings of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, Marie Tralnberg of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Alida Phaneuf and husband, Eugene, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; brother, Jean Louis Lafferty and wife, Roseanna, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families in Canada and the United States.
